WHAT IS REMEDIAL MASSAGE?
Massage is a natural therapy that has probably been in use since the origins
of mankind. It involves the use of the therapist’s hands to treat Musculo-skeletal
problems.
The therapist will also assess the underlying causes of these problems & may
prescribe gentle movements to help rehabilitation.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
The therapist will need to discuss your difficulty with you to find out what
is causing & maintaining it. You may also be asked to perform some gentle
movements to help assess the extent of the injury or problem.
Massage will be used to relax the area & to allow the therapist to assess areas
of tightness etc.
During both massage & assessment your modesty will be protected. Only the area
of your body that is being worked on will be uncovered. You will be covered by
towels to keep you warm & secure.
Appropriate techniques specific to the problem will be used to help correct or
reduce it & further massage & / or ultrasound may be given. Where appropriate
Lymphatic drainage techniques will be used.
At no time should you feel any discomfort. Massage is a pleasant & relaxing
experience that benefits both body & mind.
At the end of the treatment you will be advised how to help healing to continue
& may be given gentle exercise to speed your recovery. You will also be given
some idea about the number of treatments necessary to deal with your specific
problem.
Depending on the condition being treated it is usual to have one or two
treatments close together & then to space them out until you no longer need
them.
