Remedial & Sports Massage

Massage is a natural therapy that has probably been in use since the origins of mankind. It involves the use of the therapist’s hands to treat Musculo-skeletal problems.

The therapist will also assess the underlying causes of these problems and will offer advice and guidance to stop the problem reoccurring.

Remedial massage involves a variety of Massage techniques including mobilisation, (movements to free up joints or stretch tight muscles), exercise, lymphatic drainage, and gentle, deeply relaxing techniques to relieve stress. This type of massage has been used for centuries to facilitate the body’s ability to heal itself.

What will happen at my first appointment?

The therapist will need to take a full consultation to discuss your difficulty with you to find out what is causing and maintaining it. You may also be asked to perform some gentle movements to help assess the extent of the injury or problem.
Massage will be used to relax the area and to allow the therapist to assess areas of tightness etc.
During both massage and assessment you modesty will be protected. Only the area of your body that is being worked on will be uncovered. You will be covered by towels to keep you warm and secure.
Appropriate techniques specific to the problem will be used to help correct or reduce it and further massage and / or ultrasound may be given. Where appropriate Lymphatic drainage techniques will be used.
At no time should you feel any discomfort. Massage is a pleasant and relaxing experience that benefits both body and mind.
Clients who are in training for their specific sport will be guided as to what type of massage is appropriate pre-event and post event.
At the end of the treatment you will be advised how to help healing to continue and may be given gentle exercise to speed your recovery. You will also be given some idea about the number of treatments necessary to deal with your specific problem.
Depending on the condition being treated it is usual to have one or two treatments close together and then to space them out until you no longer need them.
